June is National Safety Month

Posted by Melissa Hall in Events, May 31, 2019

Established in 1996 by the National Safety Council and observed annually in June, National Safety Month aims to increase awareness of safety and health risks while decreasing the number of unintentional injuries and deaths across the United States.

A different safety topic is highlighted each week.

2019 Topics:

  • Week 1: Hazard Recognition
  • Week 2: Slips, Trips and Falls
  • Week 3: Fatigue
  • Week 4: Impairment

Employers are encouraged to engage workers, their families, and the community to join in practicing safety during the month of June.

  • Distribute materials promoting National Safety Month
  • Create newsletters or blog posts
  • Hold a safety contest with weekly prizes
  • Make an activity out of identifying hazards where you work and live
  • Provide safety training for employees
  • Throw a safety fair, lunch and learn or celebratory luncheon
  • Share posts on your social media channels using #NSM
